As of 2001, with the introduction of the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA 2001) all Door Supervisors are required by law to be licenced to operate within their chosen field. To gain a licence within this field the Supervisor must attend a four day Basic Job Training course totaling thirty five guided leaning hours which includes three competency based, multiple choice examinations and one practical assessment. The course breakdown is as follows:
Unit 1 Working in the Private Security Industry
This unit gives an introduction to the Private Security Industry and generic industry training covering
the following:
- Awareness of the Law in the Private Security Industry
- Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
- Fire Safety Awareness
- Emergency Procedures
- The Private Security Industry
- Communication Skills and Customer Care
This unit concludes with a 25 question multiple choice question paper
Unit 2 Working as a Door Supervisor
this unit gives the candidate the specialist training relevant to the job as a Door Supervisor, this covers the following:
- Behavioural Standards
- Civil and Criminal Law
- Searching
- Arrest
- Drugs Awareness
- Recording Incidents and Crime Scene Preservation
- Licensing Law
- Emergency Procedure
This unit concludes with a 40 question multiple choice examination paper
Unit 3 Communication Skills and Conflict Management
This unit gives the candidate an understanding of the importance of awareness in the workplace and also provides skills o assist in dealing with confrontational and unacceptable behaviour often associated with the consumption of alcohol. This covers the following:
- Avoiding Conflict and Reducing Personal Risk
- Defusing Conflict
- Resolving and Learning from Conflict
- Application of Communication Skills and Conflict Management for Door Supervisors
This unit concludes with a 35 question multiple choice examination paper
Unit 4 Physical Intervention
this gives the candidates low level physical skills in escorting, guidance and breaking away, it also provides restrictive and non restrictive holding techniques, this covers the following:
- Introduction to Physical Skills
- Disengagement Techniques
- Escorting Technique
This unit concludes in a practical assessment of all skills taught

Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH)
Course Information:
Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorizing the retail sale of alcohol must hold a Personal License. The Level 2 National Certificate for Personal License Holders (NCPLH) qualification enables successful delegates to apply for a Personal License. This course meticulously details social responsibilities and legal obligations of holding a Personal License and offers delegates detailed understanding of the current licensing laws and objectives.

At the end of the daysÂÂÂ training there will be a 40 minute multiple choice examination.
Course Content:

Award In Responsible Alcohol Retailing (ARAR)
Course Information:
If you are caught selling alcohol to a person who is under 18, or to someone who is drunk, you could be personally prosecuted. ItÂÂÂs not just members of staff that can be prosecuted but also Personal Licence HolderÂÂÂs or even the Premises Licence Holders at the same time.
However if you can evidence of due diligence, you will have a valid defence.
This course is designed for anyone, including bar staff and supermarket cashiers, who work on any licensed retail premises from pubs to convenience stores that is associated in the sale of alcohol and will provide delegates with the assurance that they are fully aware of their legal responsibilities.
In addition to this it can be used as evidence of due diligence for owners and operators of licensed retail premises.
